Excel Health Services, DBA Excel Development Group, began in November of 1988, under the leadership of Jan Thayer, Russ Peterson and Pat Snyder. Jan eventually assumed sole ownership in Excel and in 1993 added Craig Larmon as COO. Focusing on the emerging retirement housing industry, Excel began developing and managing assisted living facilities in Nebraska and Kansas. By 2005 Excel Development Group was managing 14 retirement facilities with over 1100 apartments and 500 employees. Craig retired as president of Excel in 2007 as the shift away from market rate retirement housing was winding down.
In 1992 Excel began the development and management of Tax Credit Affordable Housing. Brent Williams joined Excel in June of 2003, and quickly grew Excel’s Affordable Housing division. Brent took over as President of Excel Development Group January 1, 2008 and in April of 2010 he purchased Excel Development Group and is its current CEO/President.
As of today, Excel has built 1455 affordable housing units totaling over $150 million in development. In addition to affordable housing Excel has developed market rate senior independent and assisted living units totaling over $100 million in development.
This remarkable performance reflects an expertise in the planning, financing, development, construction, management and marketing of Affordable Housing that has been a hallmark of Excel Development Group. Today Excel manages and consults for 49 properties, in 29 cities, covering 3 states with over 1062 affordable housing units.
Excel was named one of the Top 50 Affordable Housing Developers of 2012 by Affordable Housing Finance magazine.
